Came across a very interesting blog by Jason H. from Canada, who has been following a QOD-type diet for over a month now. He is keeping a daily diary of his results and travails.

He says: "I started my diet on January 10th. I NOW ONLY EAT EVERY OTHER DAY. On the days in-between I consume nothing but gum and low-calorie beverages, such as tea, diet soda, and water."

So Jason is doing a complete fast strategy for the OFF days (which I don't recommend). For those who are interested, the link to Jason's blog is at:

http://everyotherdayfast.blogspot.com/

This total OFF day fast approach is also the approach that was studied by Heilbronn and Ravussin in their AJCN paper in January 2005.

WHAT TO LEARN FROM JASON'S DIET?
You don't have to make it too complicated. At least during the initial weight loss period, a simple alternate-day fast may work very well (although our own QOD method is different, in maintaining Na/K/Ca and some protein intake)..

Jason was losing about 10-11 lbs/month for the first two months eating nothing during the OFF day, and then he switched to more of a QOD approach, taking in protein powder and some OFF day calories. His weight loss slowed down quite a bit, and he lost only 2-3 lbs in the past month.

He's going to go back on to a complete zero intake during the OFF day and see if this helps.

does jason do the weight lifting or push-offs or running? because for me I think it will be hard to do the gymnastic activity with no food. No energy ! good meals is important for the gymnastic activity like lifting the weights or running. How do you do it jason? thank you -k

I do weight training on my OFF days. My energy comes from what I've eaten on my ON days. If I try to work out on my eating days, I find I don't have the energy because I didn't eat anything the previous day.
In general, I find I have more energy on my OFF days.
