PLEASE READ:
The information on this website is provided with the understanding that neither the publisher nor the author are rendering medical or professional services or medical advice of any sort. The ideas presented have not been rigorously scientifically tested, and there is no guarantee that eating mostly every other day will result in any weight loss or any other health benefit.

Also, eating mostly every other day may be harmful to certain individuals. It may result in dangerous or otherwise unhealthy binge eating behavior, and resulting mineral or fluid or nutrient imbalances may have unforeseen adverse effects on a person's health. Persons with known health problems requiring the care of a physician or taking of prescription medications should always consult with their physician before following the QOD or any other special diet. Food may affect the absorption of a number of prescription medications, and greatly reducing food intake may affect the absorption of such medications in unforeseen ways. Persons needing to restrict their sodium or potassium intake for any reason, and persons taking medications that may affect their salt and water status or their serum potassium levels, as well as persons with any sort of kidney, heart, or liver disease should not follow the QOD diet.

If you have had a heart attack or are at increased risk for a heart attack, QOD eating is also not for you. Some studies suggest that eating large meals may increase the risk of a heart attack. While the QOD diet counsels against eating large meals, there may an increased desire to do so during the alternate days when more calories are allowed. Also, if you have low blood pressure, or have a history of stroke or near-stroke, you should not be following this diet.

Women who are pregnant or who anticipate pregnancy in the near future should not use the QOD diet. The QOD diet is a short term weight loss diet. It is not designed to be a lifestyle diet used for long periods or for repetitive short periods—any diet can result in loss of muscle mass, and cycling back and forth on any diet, even for short periods of time, can worsen this loss of muscle mass.
